Who it’s for

  • Small teams of about 6–15 people
  • The first 10 minutes of a team meeting or workshop
  • Weekly check-ins that need a short warm-up
  • Groups who want something lighter than a full 4×4 card

How to play

  1. Give each player a card and a pen. Players write their name at the top.
  2. Players talk to each other. When someone fits a square, that person signs it. Nobody signs their own card.
  3. By default each person can sign a card once and the first full row, column, or diagonal wins. In the generator you can allow two signatures or switch to “most squares in a set time.”
  4. Plan on about 10–15 minutes for a 3×3 card. That’s a suggestion; adjust it to your group.

Tips for hosting

  • With fewer than ten players, allow each person to sign the same card up to twice; a full 3×3 card then needs only six players.
  • Set a timer for 10 minutes and use "First line wins"; a 3×3 line needs only three other players.
  • Skip the debrief if you're short on time, or ask one quick question: "Which square surprised you?"

Printing

  • Print 2 cards per page and cut once; a small team needs only a handful of sheets.
  • Turn on the free center if your group has fewer than eight people, so each card needs one fewer signature.
  • Print at 100% (“Actual size”). More detail in How to print bingo cards on US Letter or A4.

Questions

Is a 3×3 card too easy?

For a small team it is about right. With nine squares, most players can finish a line in a few minutes and the game ends before it eats into the meeting.

Why are the prompts so short?

Short prompts read fast and fit the larger squares of a 3×3 card, which keeps the game moving when you only have 10 minutes.
