Who it’s for

  • Small dinners and book clubs
  • Neighbor or new-group get-togethers
  • Groups too small for a 4×4 card

How to play

  1. Give each player a card and a pen. Players write their name at the top.
  2. Players talk to each other. When someone fits a square, that person signs it. Nobody signs their own card.
  3. By default each person can sign a card once and the first full row, column, or diagonal wins. In the generator you can allow two signatures or switch to “most squares in a set time.”
  4. Plan on about 10–15 minutes for a 3×3 card. That’s a suggestion; adjust it to your group.

Tips for hosting

  • With 6–12 people, a line needs just three other signers, so first line wins usually comes quickly; play to a full card if you want a longer round.
  • In a group of 6–9, allow two signatures per person so everyone can fill their card.
  • Seated around one table? Have everyone pass their card to the left every minute or two instead of walking around.
  • Nothing on the card asks anyone to perform; it's all quick conversation.

Printing

  • Two cards per page on US Letter or A4 gives a compact card that is easy to hold at a table.
  • Black & white works fine for a small group; you'll only need a few sheets.
  • Print at 100% (“Actual size”). More detail in How to print bingo cards on US Letter or A4.

Questions

Why is the default a 3×3 grid?

A 4×4 needs at least four other players for a line and 17 players to fill the card with one signature each. In a small group, 3×3 keeps the game finishable and short.

Can I use a free center square?

Yes. The 3×3 grid supports an optional free center, which leaves eight prompt squares. It's off by default so every square starts a conversation.
